A strike concerning senior salaried employees at some member companies in Technology Industries
The Federation of Professional and Managerial Staff (YTN) has began an industrial action on 1 November concerning around 40 companies in technology industries including companies and groups such as ABB, Boliden, Kone, Konecranes, Metso, Oras, Outotec, Patria, Rautaruukki and Wärtsilä. The industrial action lasts until 7 November, but there is threat for an extended strike, which would take place between 7 and 21 November 2011. The second strike would concern around 80 companies in technology industries. More information has been sent to the companies in question via email.
Because of the ongoing strike and the announced enlargement next Monday this labour dispute concerning the collective bargaining of senior salaried employees is in a conciliation process led by the state conciliator. The next meeting in order to solve the dispute is on Sunday 6 th of November.
Senior salaried employees' participation in the strike varies amoung the companies. A large part of senior salaried employees are at work, which is important in minimizing the long term damages to the companies in questions and to the technology industries as a whole at these turbulent times when the economic outlook is deteriorating. The Federation of Finnish Technology Industries wishes to remind the employers that senior salaried employees are free to participate in the collective action or to opt out of such action. However, the employer must not put pressure on individual employees. The Federation feels that the common goal of both employers and employees should be growth, competitiveness and preservation of jobs in Finland.
