Agreement between Federation of Finnish Technology Industries and Finnish Metal Workers’ Union on autumn pay-rise
Both negotiation parties consider it important that economic and employment prospects in the workplace are examined together locally. These evaluations will be carried out by the end of September, and it is primarily based on these that the situation in a particular workplace and the cost, timing and implementation of an appropriate pay-rise will be agreed upon. Here, cost-competitiveness, productivity, profitability and employment and purchasing power factors will be taken into account.
The goal is for negotiations with staff representatives to produce settlements appropriate to the conditions and development of productivity in each particular workplace.
If no local agreement is reached for the implementation of the pay-rise, salaries will be raised at the start of the salary period following 1 October 2010 at a cost of 1.5 %, of which two thirds (1%) will be distributed as a general pay rise and one third (0.5%) in the form of discretionary pay-rises.
In the view of the negotiation parties, prospects for economic growth vary greatly, as do effects of economic growth on order books and employment in different workplaces. The Federation of Finnish Technology Industries and The Federation of Professional and Managerial Staff (YTN) both wish to secure the preconditions for jobs in the workplace, the positive development of productivity and purchasing power and employment.
The competitiveness of the export sector, which is effected by Finnish cost-levels as a whole – including developments in social insurance – is critical from the perspective of economic growth in Finland.
The Federation of Finnish Technology Industries and the Finnish Metal Workers’ Union have a three-year collective agreement. The pay rises included in the agreement for the period following 1 October of each year are to be negotiated annually, taking into account the outlook for the economy and employment. The agreement now reached will be handled by the Finnish Metal Workers’ Union’s National Council on 26 August and by the Federation’s Board of Directors on 19 August.
